I started exploring monoprinting as a way of ā€œblindā€ drawing. It’s a wonderful way to remove acute self criticism from the creative process.

It’s a simple technique used by artist Paul Klee, where a sheet of paper spread evenly with oil paint is placed face-down onto a surface. Marks made on the paper are then transferred to the surface.

This gallery shows my first attempts, (including messy smudges!) and how I’m continuing to perfect the technique as I practice.

Many of these monoprints (and more) can be purchased in my shop

The vintage typewriter holds great significance for me.

An unusual symbol of my childhood, I would lug the heavy thing around the house, every pound on the cumbersome keys reverberating through the furniture and floorboards.

I created important music reviews (probably of Adam & the Ants) for the school newspaper, a prize winning ā€œliving historyā€ piece comprising of an interview with my Nan and the first flourishes of a screenplay when I was fifteen years old.

The Typewriter ā€œBarely Thereā€ series of original prints take their titles from adapted lines from George Orwell’s novel ā€œKeep The Aspidistra Flyingā€. The ten prints explore my struggles with social anxiety and seclusion, and how it is through artistic expression that I’ve found a voice.
